Full Time Day Shift Charge Nurse

Charge nurse is responsible for the shift and seeing that all duties needing to be completed are done before leaving (This includes seeing that the other staff have their duties done). Maintain a high quality of service that will fulfill the objectives of the facility home, assist in planning and participate in in-service training

Responsibilities:

  1. Receive report.
  2. Make routine checks of all residents.
  3. Administer medications and treatments as ordered by the attending physician.
  4. Review resident care plans, Dr. order sheets, TX sheets and MAR’s as needed with RN supervision.
  5. Chart all pertinent information on resident’s charts.
  6. Notifies Director and/or Dr. and family promptly of any concerns about resident’s health condition or of any incident or accident which may take place.
  7. Maintains inventory of resident’s medications and orders meds as needed
  8. Participates and attends all in-services scheduled.
  9. Takes verbal and phone orders from the physician and transcribes them all to appropriate places in the medical record.
  10. Request supplies, equipment, and linens, etc. from Director.
  11. Assists residents in getting ready for appointments with Dr., hospital, dentist, eye Dr., etc., send with resident any pertinent information.
  12. Schedule tests or other diagnostic work as ordered by the attending physician.
  13. Assigns duties to CMA’s and CNA’s.
  14. Takes care of the facility, such as call for a needed building repair, in the absence of the Administrator.
  15. Count scheduled drugs and accept keys.
  16. Prepare nursing assistants assignment and explain all pertinent resident care.
  17. Observe meal times.
  18. Supervise all resident care and assist with direct patient care as necessary
  19. Work with Director to keep plan of care current
  20. Supervise prompt response to resident’s call lights and exit door alarms
  21. Watch for compliance with current infection control procedure.
  22. Open chart to document resident conditions as needed and close upon required documentation completed.
  23. Meet with the RN consultant and director approximately every 2 weeks to discuss any possible problems with residents and/or staff.
  24. Have current CPR proficiency review.
  25. Give report to nurse or CMA, count narcotics and surrender keys.
  26. Know and follow HIPAA Privacy and Security Policies.
  27. Responsible to know and follow all policies given at orientation.

  

Exerting 25-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Be able to stand for long periods of time; withstand tension and pressure; ability to organize operations well; must have leadership qualities; must be able to perform the same tasks required by the staff they are supervising. 

Education:

Graduate of state approved school of nursing; current registration as LPN/RN in this state; sincere interest in geriatric nursing; initiative and judgment in observing needs of nursing service; ability to maintain good working relationships with all personnel.

 

Experience:

No Experience mandatory; experience as long term care nurse would be beneficial.
